Downtown Sailing Center
The Downtown Sailing Center (DSC) is a non-profit organization that aims to provide sailing education and opportunities to the Baltimore community. The center offers various programs that promote self-esteem, teamwork, and accessibility to everyone, including youth, people with disabilities, and those with limited opportunity. Located in the heart of Baltimore at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, the DSC has been serving the community since 1994. The center is open to residents of Downtown, Federal Hill, South Baltimore, Riverside, and Locust Point neighborhoods. The DSC is a certified Community Sailing Center and accredited Sailing School through US Sailing, which is the national governing body of sailing. The center has been recognized by US Sailing for its outstanding programs, including Outstanding New Program in 1997, Outstanding Seasonal Program in 1999, and Outstanding Community Program in 2012. Lynn Handy, the former Executive Director of DSC, was awarded US Sailing's Virginia Long award in 2017 for her efforts to improve sailing education nationally.
